In 2009, Tumblr won the Crunchie Award for "Best New Startup," and by 2010, it had amassed over one million users, causing investors to pour an additional $85 million into the business, valuing it at $850 million. And shortly thereafter, Spark Capital along with Union Square Ventures and invested another $4.5 million. Whereas Facebook aimed to put a name and a face to users' entire social network, Tumblr thrived on anonymous accounts, in which the platform displayed no public follower or friend counts, no comment sections, and had no requirements for users to provide real names or information.īy the end of Tumblr's first year, Spark Capital invested $750,000 at a valuation of $3 million. Tumblr positioned itself against the other social media platforms of the times in another way - its focus on anonymity. From its inception, Karp prioritized features that he believed would cultivate the most creativity - and rejected the monetary and status driven incentives that he thought other platforms, such as YouTube and Facebook, relied on to drive use.Īt the time, he spoke plainly on the subject, directly positing Tumblr's anti-advertisement and anti-influencer culture against what he perceived as the anti-creative practices of other major platforms. The platform allowed users to post a myriad of different content, from photos and gifs to music and text entries. He paused his software consulting endeavor and focused on creating his own tumbleblog platform - which he subsequently named, Tumblr. In 2007, after stumbling upon a microblog called Projectionist, which tracked together tumblelogs - a blog variation that favors short-form, mixed-media posts over longer editorial posts - Tumblr co-founder David Karp became fascinated with this alternative to traditional blogging. This round up includes those straight-up dairy-free Caramels plus Caramel Baking Chips and bonus chewy Caramel Candy Bars. Fortunately, there are now several brands of vegan caramels that can be melted for dipping caramel apples, baked into desserts, or simply savored. But most varieties are made with butter, cream, and/or condensed milk. So here’s a question for you.Updated October 2020! Sweet, chewy caramels are a holiday classic for baking and enjoying. Or should I say cutting perfect squares out of wax paper? Well, guess what? I just came across these pre-cut caramel wrappers on and ordered one. If you ask me what’s my least favorite part of making caramels, I’d say wrapping the little suckers. The delicate floral flavor of cardamom is infused in these soft caramel bites, making it even more irresistible! I’ve talked about my cardamom obsession in this orange cardamom truffles recipe post. I’m embarrassed to admit that I didn’t butter a wax paper once and had to throw out one of the test batches.Ĭardamom is often overlooked, yet absolutely amazing spice that we all should use more of. Don’t forget to butter the foil (or parchment or wax paper) before you pour the caramel.Use a candy thermometer for above mentioned reasons.Sure, you can test mixture by dropping a small amount in cold water etc, but it makes the process that much more complicated, and the mixture can go from perfect to ruined in matter of seconds. Once the mixture comes to a boil, we’ll be cooking it until it reaches 250☏ (120☌) and the color becomes dark golden. I’m still using Garrat’s grandma’s old candy thermometer, which I should probably replace it soon, but it works. Anyway, new or old, you do need a candy thermometer. The secret to success is a candy thermometer. I find combining all the ingredients and cooking everything together is the simplest method of all. We are just boiling some butter, sugar, cream and corn syrup after all! Just kidding, not that simple, but almost. If you’ve never made caramels, or you are intimidated to try your hands at this sticky candy-making business, rest assured you’ll do fine. My in-laws have been raving about these caramels ever since they tried them. I think they might have been hinting they want more, but instead I’m bringing them Valentine’s desserts. These soft and chewy cardamom caramel bites need to happen this season! You need this in your life. We’ll see how it’ll work out, but I already have some pretty awesome recipes lined up for you for Valentine’s day! Oh, around late September into October, I think? You see, in preparation for my baby (due in Jan!!), I’ve been working pretty much non-stop to get ahead of myself to continue to share new recipes with you even after the baby. Now that Thanksgiving is behind us, we can fully concentrate on all things Christmas, right? I’ve worked on this caramel recipe a while back. My goodness, I’m so excited to share this recipe for homemade caramels with you. These buttery, soft and chewy caramel candies, infused with hint of cardamom, are so delightfully addicting!! Step-by-step photos and lots of tips included. Berry died two years later, and Lincoln assumed the debts from the business. In April 1833, he sold his interest in the store to Berry and was appointed Postmaster of New Salem on May 7, 1833. Lincoln spent more time dealing with customers and his down time reading, and they fell into debt. Lincoln's foray into the world of booze was short-lived-Berry was apparently an alcoholic and took advantage of the new liquor license to drink while he was working in the store. Takeout meals for stage passengers cost 37.25 cents, and they also sold beer and cider. Lodging was 12.5 cents per night, and horses could stay for 25 cents, with feed going for 12.5 cents. They could also sell food-breakfast, dinner, and supper were each 25 cents-and put people up for the night. Wine cost 25 cents, rum was 18.75 cents, and whiskey was 12.5 cents. Half pints of Holland gin cost 18.75 cents, while domestic gin was 12.5 cents. So what did they serve? Half pints of French brandy for 25 cents, peach brandy for 18.75 cents, and apple brandy for 12 cents. Stores that sold liquor to consume on the premises were called groceries. In March 1833, Berry and Lincoln were issued a tavern, or liquor, license, which cost them $7 and was taken out in Berry's name. Stores could sell alcohol in quantities greater than a pint for off-premises consumption, but it was illegal to sell single drinks to consume at the store without a license. Berry, to purchase a small store, which they named Berry and Lincoln. In January 1833, he partnered with his friend from his militia days, William F. He worked as a store clerk, served in a militia, and unsuccessfully ran for office. His boat got stuck there and after visiting New Orleans, he returned to New Salem and decided to stay. He first arrived there on a flat boat when he was 22 and en route to New Orleans. Lincoln was co-owner of Berry and Lincoln, a store/drinking establishment in New Salem, Illinois, where he lived from 1831 to 1837. But Lincoln was the only president who was also a licensed bartender. Andrew Jackson's inaugural party in 1829 was so legendary that we still drink the orange punch partygoers consumed (and you can find it on the menu at Big Jones). Holders of the nation's highest office have often had a close relationship with booze, as George Washington established the nation's largest whiskey distillery in 1797 and Thomas Jefferson brewed his own beer. And before he was a lawyer, he was something else entirely-a bartender. Back before he was President, Abraham Lincoln was a lawyer. The evidence points to the father of the great soldier Agrippa. Julius Caesar, the emperor, has been murdered. * Participate in gladiatorial events such as chariot races, battles, and duels * Switch between characters Agrippa and Octavianus when either brawn or brains is required Shadow of Rome is designed to offer a detailed, interactive re-creation of the capital city in 48 B.C., and features a number of famous locations and additional historical characters. The clever and well-connected Octavianus is more likely to be able to solve the game's adventure-style puzzles, which relate to Caesar's murder and the unfair trials of those who were loyal to him. To shed light on the intrigue surrounding the mysterious regicide, however, Agrippa will need the help of his friend Octavianus. In his quest to restore his family's honor and discover the truth behind Caesar's demise, Agrippa will enter duels to the death, fight in the arenas as a gladiator, and compete in chaotic chariot races. The brave warrior Agrippa is at work on the battlefield when he learns that the emperor has been killed, and that his own father is now being held as an enemy of the state in connection with the crime. It will take both brains and brawn to conquer the corruption of Julius Caesar's Rome, so this action-adventure from Capcom offers two playable characters and encourages gamers to switch between them as they face its various challenges. Classic King Louie (The Jungle Book) - collect 50 bananas while playing as King Louie.Fifi (Mickey and Friends) - collect 50 bones while playing as Pluto.Jessie (Toy Story) - collect 50 cherries while playing as Bullseye.Captain of the Guard (Tangled) - collect 50 apples while playing as Maximus.Warthog (Tangled) - 50 cakes while playing as Attilla. These often are linked to mystery characters: if you collect 50 of the objects (not necessarily in one run - you can pick them up over the course of many attempts) you'll unlock a special character. When playing as certain characters, you'll notice that there are small objects littered on the track that disappear when you run into them. Jewel Finkelstein (Nightmare before Christmas)Ĭollecting cakes, apples, bones, bananas and more Find.Įaster Bunny (Nightmare before Christmas) You just have to hop up to them, and then finish your run, to unlock that character. That sounds intimidating, but remember that picking up candy will multiply your score greatly in no time.Ī number of characters can be found in the game. To get Gloyd you need to play as Rancis Fluggerbutter and then score over 1500 in one run. Bash into him and you'll unlock Dave when you next die. Play as Dave and hop through the Inside Out level until you come across Bing Bong. You will then unlock this character when you next die. Go up to her and she'll transform into Abstract Joy. Easy! Abstract Joy (Inside Out)Īgain, play as Abstract Bing Bong and find Joy standing on the path. Once you have Abstract Bing Bong, all you need to do is play as that character and then die to unlock Abstract Sadness. Try to open it and you'll be squished shut - and will unlock Abstract Bing Bong at the end of your run. While playing as Bing Bong (and you've made sure you've updated Disney Crossy Road to the latest version), hop along until you see a weird grey and red door. Play as Mufasa from the Lion King set and get trampled by a herd of wildebeest to unlock this mean ol' lion. Just get struck by lighting twice during a run and you'll grab this lion for your roster. You'll need to play as a Jungle Book character to get Adult Nala. If you manage this you'll unlock the character. What this means is you should stand behind the rock when the stampeding animals come through, then quickly switch to the other side of the rock for when they come from the other direction. To get Mufasa you need to play as Simba and spend 12 seconds near stampedes. This hidden character can be unlocked by playing as Hookhand in the Tangled theme, and playing the piano (the brown instrument that shows up on the track) 10 times. Do this 25 times, across multiple runs, to grab Ezra Beane. Play as Phineas Plump and get an armour to chase you - then hop away to stay alive.
If you’ve ever made pizza at home and wondered why the crust tastes so different from the big chain pizzerias, there’s a reason for that. Photo: Dough conditioners give Domino’s pizza a weak, underdeveloped gluten structure. Photo: Domino’s Pizza offers several crust types, like this thin and chewy Brooklyn Style crust. If there’s any takeaway from this pricing it’s that there is no Domino’s pizza style that is a significant value over any other, which is good to know. Not surprisingly, the price is very standardized between $1.07 – $1.20, with the Handmade Pan, Brooklyn Style, and Gluten-Free being the most expensive, and the Hand Tossed and Crunchy Thin being the least expensive. Just for interest’s sake, I calculated the price of each pizza per square inch based on the largest pizza size offered for each crust style. Gluten Free Thin base, thin edges $1.20 $11.99 (10”) A thin, crispy crust that’s blander than other the styles, but still pretty good for a gluten free pizza. In my opinion, Brooklyn Style is the best Domino’s crust available. Brooklyn Style Thin base, raised edges $1.12 $17.99 (16”) Thin hand stretched crust with puffy edges, cut into six large triangles, meant to be folded and eaten. Crunchy underside, usually cut into square “party style” slices. Crunchy Thin Very thin crust $1.07 $14.99 (14”) Very thin crust with toppings spread edge to edge. Closest thing to a “regular” or “original” Domino’s crust. Hand Tossed Medium crust $1.07 $14.99 (14”) Dough is stretched to size by hand and has a garlic-oil seasoning blend brushed into the crust. Crust Type Quick Price/square inch Price Description Handmade Pan Thick crust $1.12 $13.49 (12”) Dough is pressed into a pan to create a thick crust, similar to Pizza Hut. The Gluten Free crust is actually pretty good for a gluten free crust, if a little dry. The Brooklyn style crust is somewhere in the middle-the base crust is quite thin and chewy while the outer edge is slightly raised. The Handmade Pan pizza has a thick crust similar to Pizza Hut, while the Crunchy Thin crust is designed to emulate Midwestern USA “party style” pizza cut into square slices. The “ Hand Tossed” pizza is probably the closest thing to a “regular” pizza crust that Domino’s offers with a thin to medium thickness. In Brief: As of 2023, Domino’s offers 5 different types of pizza crust in the US: Handmade Pan, Hand Tossed, Crunchy Thin, Brooklyn Style, and Gluten Free. So here’s the question-in an age of wood-fired, gourmet pizza and Neapolitan cooking, has Domino’s upped their game, or are they still offering the same sad crust I remember from the 1980s? What kinds of Domino’s Pizza Crust Types are even available? I guess I’ll just have to do a bit of research, order a few pizzas, and find out for myself. Whatever the case, for one reason or another, I’ve always just sort of tuned Domino’s out of my pizza consciousness. What’s the difference between Handmade Pan vs Hand Tossed? Maybe it’s the over-saturation of their marketing throughout the decades (remember the Noid?), or maybe it’s the fact that they don’t typically have sit-down locations in the US. Pizza Hut’s personal pan pepperoni pizza has always been a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine.īut Domino’s (arguably the biggest pizza chain in the world) has always been a relative mystery to me. I don’t mind eating fast-food pizza, in fact sometimes I actually enjoy it. As a self-proclaimed “pizza expert”, I’ve had the opportunity to try some of the best pizza in the world-from New York City to Naples, and beyond. Extra OrDinary You Episode 1 720p taetae555.
